Get on the Balcony!: Adapting Interpersonal Process Recall (IPR) as an Experiential Method to Increase Reflective Listening Skills
Interpersonal Process Recall (IPR) is an experiential method adapted for a Communication Intensive course to increase reflective listening skills. During IPR, students conduct peer coaching sessions in pre-established learning groups (Facilitator, Coach, Inquirer, Observer) with one student volunteer from outside the class (Client). The Client shares a real problem they are facing in a recorded session with a Coach. After, the Coach and Client re-watch the session with the support of an Inquirer who helps surface thoughts, feelings, and behaviors observed during the session. When the session concludes, the Observer provides feedback to the Coach based on their learning goals.
